1. Introduction

Lakeshore Smart Home respects your privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains how Lakeshore Smart Home ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects personal information when you visit lakeshoresmarthome.ca, submit an inquiry, request a consultation, or purchase services.

For privacy questions, access requests, correction requests, or complaints, contact:

2. Personal Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us.

Website inquiries

When you submit the website contact form, we may collect:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your phone number, if provided;
  • your town or postal code;
  • the project category you select;
  • details you provide about your home, devices, network, or project; and
  • any other information you voluntarily include in your message.

Please do not send passwords, access codes, payment-card information, alarm codes, private access tokens, or other sensitive credentials through the website contact form.

Customer and project information

If you become a customer, we may collect information reasonably needed to assess, quote, schedule, deliver, support, and document the services you request. This may include:

  • contact information;
  • your service address;
  • project notes;
  • equipment lists;
  • network and smart-device information;
  • photos or diagrams of relevant areas of your home, with your permission;
  • quotes, invoices, payment records, and service history; and
  • support and troubleshooting notes.

Some services may require temporary access to device settings, smart-home dashboards, or home-network settings. Where practical, you should enter passwords yourself and retain control of your accounts.

Technical website information

Standard technical information may be processed automatically when you visit the website, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested, date and time of access, and basic security or diagnostic information.

3. How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to:

  • respond to inquiries;
  • schedule calls and appointments;
  • assess your needs;
  • prepare quotes and recommendations;
  • provide smart-home and home-network consulting services;
  • configure, test, document, and support systems;
  • communicate with you about your project;
  • send invoices and maintain business records;
  • coordinate technical requirements with contractors where authorized;
  • protect the security and reliability of the website and services;
  • prevent spam, fraud, or misuse;
  • meet legal, tax, accounting, insurance, and regulatory obligations; and
  • resolve disputes or respond to lawful requests.

We will not use personal information for unrelated purposes without consent unless permitted or required by law.

4. Contact-Form Submissions

The website contact form is processed using Netlify Forms.

When you submit the form:

  • your submission is transmitted to Netlify for processing;
  • the submission may be stored in the Netlify Forms dashboard;
  • Lakeshore Smart Home receives an email notification at hello@lakeshoresmarthome.ca; and
  • the information is used to respond to your inquiry.

Information processed by service providers may be stored or processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is processed.

5. Hosting and Service Providers

We use third-party service providers to operate the website and business. These may include:

  • Netlify, for website hosting and contact-form processing;
  • Cloudflare, for domain-name, network, performance, and security services where enabled;
  • email infrastructure used by Lakeshore Smart Home;
  • accounting, invoicing, banking, insurance, and professional-advisory providers; and
  • contractors involved in your project where you authorize the disclosure.

We share information only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or as permitted or required by law.

6. Contractors and Referrals

Some projects require work that Lakeshore Smart Home does not perform, such as electrical work or new in-wall cabling.

If you ask us to coordinate technical requirements with an electrician, low-voltage installer, or other contractor, we may share limited project information reasonably needed for that purpose.

Electrical contractors and low-voltage installers are hired directly by the homeowner unless otherwise stated in a separate written agreement. They operate independently and are responsible for their own privacy practices.

7. Marketing Communications

Submitting an inquiry does not subscribe you to a newsletter or marketing list.

We may send communications related to your inquiry, quote, appointment, project, invoice, or support request.

We will only send promotional communications where permitted by law and, where required, with the appropriate consent.

8. Cookies and Analytics

At the time this Privacy Policy was last updated, the website does not use advertising cookies, behavioural-tracking pixels, or third-party marketing analytics.

The website may rely on essential technical processing performed by hosting, network, and security providers to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

If analytics, advertising tools, or non-essential cookies are added in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated and any consent mechanism required by law will be implemented.

9. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, subject to legal, tax, accounting, insurance, and dispute-resolution requirements.

Unless a longer period is required or justified:

  • inquiries that do not become customer projects are generally deleted within 24 months;
  • project records, invoices, agreements, and related business records may be retained for at least six years after the end of the relevant tax year; and
  • temporary credentials, access tokens, and remote-access permissions are deleted, disabled, returned, or transferred back to the customer after work is complete unless ongoing access is authorized.

10. Safeguards

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information we handle.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Access, Correction, and Deletion Requests

You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal, contractual, technical, and record-retention requirements.

To make a request, contact:

Privacy Officer

We may need to verify your identity before responding.
